Can you create a process that will tar / gzip the entire Wiki into a file and place that file somewhere on a Wiki page so that we can have a local copy of the Wiki? Would that even work without the database? --Magik 00:27, 20 April 2006 (CEST)
It seems mediawiki lets me make a dump of the wiki as an xml-file, exluding the pictures. This dump can be imported in another wiki (see here] for closer information). I made a snapshot of the wiki and added the 'images' directory. You can try to download it here Jochen 12:26, 22 April 2006 (CEST)
Can you please move H0001, H0004, H0006, H0007, H0009, H0031, H0035, H0036, H0037, H0038, H0039, H0040, H0041, H0042, H0043, H0044, H0045, H0046, H0047, and H0048 to Bugs-VCR section? --Magik 21:26, 11 August 2006 (CEST)
In fact these seem to be Host problems, as VCR's only work is to show the outcomes of combats? But as there are a lot of combat-related problems maybe we should really consider putting them on the vcr page. What do you think? Jochen 17:09, 12 August 2006 (CEST)
I see your point that the VCR executable only displays the result of what the host has processed as combat. I doubt that there will be many display errors though, so moving these and making that distinction would probably be for the best. --Magik 14:24, 13 August 2006 (CEST)
The bugs have been moved to section Bugs - Space Combat. Jochen 20:11, 13 August 2006 (CEST)
Jochen, I would like to offer planetswiki.com again as a mirror or something to provide some kind of backup. As it is right now I have redirected the site directly to yours. I will always have that in place, but if you chose to host or mirror I would not charge/argue with you about it. SvenMan
I can also set up a site to mirror planets wiki if needed. The wiki.tar.gz is from april, can you set a more recent snapshot? There's a way to get the images into the wiki but they need to be on the same directory. Then you can use the importImages.php script to upload the images into the new wiki. - Chainsword 21:59, 17 October 2006 (CEST)

[edit] Mirror
Ok, so the update's would be a manual upload then ... well, im in the dark on this one but my site will still point here until told otherwise.
I have trouble with the recent changes page, I have to put 100 last change and check the java option, if not the page display a blank page, I was using last 500 change in last 7 days, for a few months without any trouble, I use Firefox, and I have the same trouble under an IE tab, all other pages display perfectly.
Lord Lancelot 06:11, 2 November 2006 (CET)
Yup, same with me. May be a problem related to the crash. Picture upload doesn't work either...
Using Firefox 2 I now let me show the last 200 changes but not the javascript version (don't like the look).

Hello,
I was trying to do something on the AD-22 Marauder page/link but I can't fix it. I think there is some kind of error on that page, because I can't see the link on the dracs ship list and the aricle-tab of the AD-22 marauder page is gone. Do I have right or not?
--Mivorari 22:51, 6 November 2006 (CET)
Strange, I can view the page without problems logged in and not logged in. Try to enforce a refresh on the page (shoud be "shift+refresh button "). Which browser are you using?
Jochen 23:50, 6 November 2006 (CET)
I am using Netscape and as backup IE 6.0. I doesn't matter what browser I use. I have the same problem. I can send you some screen captures to you. Only I don't know how to link them to a Wiki page.--Mivorari 18:14, 7 November 2006 (CET)
How is the wiki backup ? is it automatically now ?
Lord Lancelot 13:36, 8 November 2006 (CET)
I think I had a problem with the cron-job. If this works now, there should be a daily backup in the night.
Jochen 14:15, 8 November 2006 (CET)
Very nice job, editing the peeps proposal page, you know I'm best doing the ground work (copy & paste), you have the finishing magical touch.
Lord Lancelot 20:38, 12 November 2006 (CET)
Graphics...did you lose them? A lot of the pages don't have them displayed. Are they just in the wrong folder? Do they need to be resubmitted? --Magik 21:59, 3 January 2007 (CET)
There are two options for graphic support that seem to exlude each other. I haven't had the time to get things right, however all graphics are still on the hard drive. Btw. great work on the sensor page (I suppose you were granted a look at the scanning sources). Jochen 17:50, 4 January 2007 (CET)
Hello Jochen, Good New year!!
But I wonder if you could do something for me. I can't delete old links on the wiki base. I have changed to links in the Mivorari "base". One with mading a new link and copy the text from the old to the new one and a second by using the tab "move" in the edit screen. But now I can't delete the first one. Can you do this? Otherwise we have a empty link in the base. The links I am talking about are:
Mivorari Ellipse Monitor and Mivorari White Star Dreadnought. The last one I have "moved". So I think this is no problem if it still exists.--Mivorari 19:05, 6 January 2007 (CET)
Made the Mivorari Ellipse Monitor a redirect page to Mivorari White Star Monitor (just like the wiki does when moving a page). Jochen 23:44, 6 January 2007 (CET)
Could you delete it it is confusing and not needed http://shove-it.de/open/jochen/wiki/index.php/Mivorari_Ellipse_Monitor and the talk page
Lord Lancelot 00:08, 7 January 2007 (CET)
Make it a REDIRECT page is fine for me. If we use the new names we will forget the old ones soon.--Mivorari 00:23, 7 January 2007 (CET)
[edit] New Page Request
could we create a page titled capture. to explain the varoius ways to capture. and the perks from doing so. subtopics to include capturing ships via combat, capturing ships via boarding actions, capturing bases. capturing ships plans.auto=capture . benefits of captured ships and thier devices-what woprks and what wont(possible spreadsheet here). etc.--protomatter 19:20, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
Of course we can. I started the page, feel free to add stuff ;) Jochen 22:49, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
thanks for the link i would to request a couple shorthand redirects if possible. im not familiar with doing this myself. need a redirect for scavs to scavengers. and a redirect for privs to privateers. thanks--protomatter 06:20, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Confusion on link spellings
these two ships use a device called The bullistac Battle Computer, had some difficulty locating the info on this device but found it under ballistic the difference between the two is BULL and BALL tims website help file spells it BULL and here at the wiki it seems its spelled BALL. any not sure how to correct the title of an already existing page or even if thats something thatmatters. so i leave it your hands--protomatter 19:24, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Not really sure how it is supposed to be spelled, but at least there is a redirect if you open Bullistic Battle Computer. Jochen 11:06, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] skins and the edit bar
ive been playing with the planets skin, and cant seem to find my edit bar when using it. is this something i have to select or did i mess something up. ---protomatter
Haven't used it for some time, but as you mention it...Think i messed it up and will try to correct it. Thanks for the info. Jochen 08:28, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Exploits
how are exploits handled in the vgap community, is that something handled here at the wiki? would it be not prudent to list exploits. or prudent? Tim indicates he finds the wiki a useful tool for his bug reports. but what about exploits.
Like what ? AA guns, Boost engine speed ?
Lord Lancelot 05:43, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
like the one discussed in the games S&Q on drewheads" nav mode subject. how the borg guy learned to chunnel without his chunnel ship actually going thru. --proto
Guess it's no bug or loophole (see my message at drews). But imho loopholes can (and should) be adressed in the wiki, too. Jochen 15:53, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Terminology changes
to prevent ambiguitys ive begun some terminology changes to the wiki.
- ship transporters are now called and are being chaged to Beam Transfer to prevent confusion with transport terminology such as a ship transporting pods to another world. or the ship class transporter/freighter
- Auto-Intercept is being named for the mission function, to prevent confusion with standard Intercept
- the Use of Nav-Mode cam now be used to describe Intercept,Auto-Intercept, [Waypoint]] and Escort
- descriptions involving the word target have been changed to no longer add the word target to its link. example
[[Beam Transfer Target]] links should now read as [[Beam Transfer]] target. and
[[Waypoint Target]] should now read as [[Waypoint]] Target.
-proto
[edit] terminology merging
i see a lot of referencing to the word Target.targets and see no difference between target and Space Object. im thinking if there is no objectection that a redirect from the word target should or might be placed to link it with space object. or perhaps a merging where both link and space object hit a page called "targets/space objects. the page Space Objects already exists. and wouldnt need any further improvement from what i can tell. i could of done this change myself but wanted your opinnions on the matter. -proto
P.S. if ive been overstepping my bounds in modifications of the wiki to date please let me know. i sometimes feel i should be monitored closely as i dont want to step on anyones toes.-prot
Oh, I reaaly appreciate your enthusiasm ;)
However I would consider seperating pages describing the User Interface and those describing the game model. Therefore I prefer e.g. a nav modes page (belonging to the movement category) and the ship/wing command pages pointing to that page. Similar thing with the Wing Battle Orders/aatack modes or whatever we might call it. I'd prefer having them on a seperate page (cat. game funtion)... Guess you got my point. Jochen 13:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] uploxd image
i have an image i would like to upload to the site, but i dont know or how to utilize that tool, the image is of the effects of a warp bubble shoing a nice lil scatter pattern for reference. could you post the link here for me thank you!--protomatter 19:25, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
take a peek at the new link i made, Minefields plan B,
hopefully its more organized and makes more sense.
I've added the category Command Codes. It helps to find the command codes you can use faster. Chainsword 12:46, 28 July 2007 (CEST)
Sure, nice ideaJochen 14:57, 28 July 2007 (CEST)
minefield plan b have you given up all hipoes of making changes to minefields? i thought we were making good progress,--protomatter 05:09, 17 August 2007 (CEST)
Well, I guess you're right. We have put that much work in it that it would be really nice if at least a part of it would be realized. Jochen 12:41, 17 August 2007 (CEST)
Hi Jochen,
would it be a good idea to put some more links to the Race pages, like the RCS page? I'm thinking of links to the "ship list" and the "change proposal" pages.
--Yid 09:03, 15 February 2008 (CET)
Sure, those pages are not carved into stone. As these are 'RCS-related' links - why not? ;) Jochen 10:00, 15 February 2008 (CET)
[edit] wiki extensions
Take a look on this extension. It's very easy to install and could be very usefull in some things. I'm going to instal in my own wiki too.
Zaabur 08:45, 13 March 2008 (CET)
Jochen, what is about the Math extension. I mean this and that. I can provide some assistance if needed. --Sebastian 22:33, 23 April 2008 (CEST)
You got me on that point - it's still the prob that tex is not installed properly on the server. I will contact the admin *soon* to help you in doing the docmuentation on the new battle system. Jochen 23:23, 23 April 2008 (CEST)
[edit] Growth Worksheet
Nice Work. The model suggests a growth factor of 50% at 50 Million colonists. The section under growth and my own test on Host 213h is that the formula is
=1-colonists/6e7
Thanks for the good work --KBJ07675 23:39, 4 October 2008 (CEST)
[edit] Templates with jpgs
I have a problem. I have "create" a template that will display a picture (jpg), but if the picture is to big, the template did look good. So my question is, how can I resize the picture into the template without uploading a new and smaller one to the wiki page? Link: [[1]]
This template is 400 px width. It must resize the jpg/picture to 160 px. How I do this? --Mivorari 23:43, 15 November 2008 (CET)
I have found the solution --Mivorari 00:47, 16 November 2008 (CET)
