[edit] Overview

Part of the game revolves around researching your technology levels. Each technology level may give you new units to build, depending on your chosen race. There are 10 technology categories, each having their own separate technology line. You can access the research screen by clicking on the HQ (Central Command Head Quarters) button on the toolbar, then press the TECH item. When you have an item selected, it will remain selected until it is researched once. If you would like all of your selections to always remain selected, then you can enable the "Persistent Upgrades" option. Each tech level is a foundation for the next, so you cannot skip levels even though you have no use for the lower tech level items that you get from your research.

[edit] Research Limitations

Note that some races cannot research certain technologies, such as the Scavengers cannot research Super Weapons. If you aren't forbidden like this then you can still research the technology even though your ships may not be able to use it. That is because in some situations you may capture or be traded a ship from a race that can use that technology and you may be able to upgrade that ship to use better technology than what it currently is outfitted with.

If you have not registered the copy of the game then your research levels are limited. Those limitations are shown in the table below. It is considered "Shareware" mode.

[edit] Transfers

This screen shows you the "Transfer Total" from Government Centers and some other base structures, such as the King's Palace. Note that if your base doesn't currently have enough money to meet the requirement of your transfer then only the money that you have in your base will be shown here; however, taxes, ship transfers, pods landing, and base structures that produce money will be able to adjust your base's money prior to the government center transfer (not BDC or BDM command codes), so don't rely on this number. You can get an idea of how much money you will get into your Galactic Bank from taxes by using the Read Messages tool and review your Tax Report.

The technology levels that are set for all players by the Master programm are shown in the tables below. Only in a scripted game can the starting levels be different from these numbers.

Technology level advancements are made after movement, government center transfers, parts purchases, base structure construction, and GalBank. So you cannot build higher technology base structures or ship parts on the same turn that you research a new appropriate tech. The GalBank needs to be tested.
