Magik,

Could you describe (breifly) what information is contain in each of the files. With this information I may be able to suggest a few ideas for you.

Also in your Search System: How will the results be ordered? By lowest #ID or will you provide an option to sort i.e. ORDER BY [OBJECT] [DESC\ASC]

[OBJECT] -> Colonists\Mineral Type\Mechs\ etc. All the objects that you can search on. [DESC\ASC] -> Order results in decreasing or increasing order.

{If you have used SQL before you will have the idea}

Ideas look good...

  • Shall there be a limit on the number of commands that you can set up?? Hope Not.
  • This maybe a good way to start a manually configured Computer Player, with the user providing the AI, but the search engine will have to be very powerful if it is to be successful.

I like the idea, but would required the Design Spec to be more helpful.

Doc.

I'm not sure about what is contained in each file, but from my observations, I believe that the .MEM file stores messages that you can find in the Read Messages button. The .VVV seems to be some control file for determining if you have missed a turn and brings you up to speed on missed messages. .TRK seems to compile a list of changes that you are making to your .RST as you use the client. .WAR seems to have information about what you can see on the map. All of these, except for the .TRK file appear to be compressed into the .RST that you receive from the host.exe.

The sort option is a good idea. We should allow any and all items to have a sort order, just to be flexible.

No limit on the commands/actions. In fact, you can set up a configuration for micromanagement, save it and use it against any game you have.

The search engine and action engine are the main features of this program, so they will be very powerful and flexible.

It would be nice, if you could use the resultset of a query as basis of a new query, thus refining the original query. (If it will be too much work, just leave it out).

Regarding duplicates in queries: I would suggest to eliminate them in the query rather than in the resultset (or in both).

Regional Management: How do you want to define this regions? By x,y coordinates (thus rectangular)? By planets(bases) inside the region? ...

I think that my Examples 1 and 2 demonstrate what you are asking for in your first paragraph, don't they? If not, I guess I need some examples from you Jochen.

For regional management, you will be able to either draw an area using multiple points so it is not just a box or selected map objects, such as points in space, planets, ships (starbases), etc. One way or another, all objects will be assigned at least one region. Those objects that have multiple regions will be able to transport/travel between regions. For example, if you want to set up a freighter to bring ordnance out of the region that is far from the front lines to one that is closer, it can be set with both regions. A wing that you want to patrol between two regions can be set that way, etc.

Yes, you're right, I realized that too late ;)
This region-thing sounds promising!
Btw. your new pw should be on the way by now.

You may have typo'd the e-mail address. I haven't gotten anything yet. Thanks.
