Why would anyone turn it off ?

No idea. In fact I'd rather like to see this as a hull trait rather than a ship device as it makes no sense to turn it off (same with other devices that have no upkeep costs and no drawback like bioscanner). Jochen 19:50, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Nah Bioscanner have be turned off if you have some Scav devices, bio counter them. But I agree for the Unicom.

ive done a few simulations with unicom. and there doesnt appear to be any difference with the fights using unicom or not.

a wing of 600 from a scorpius appears to have the same tactical odds of combat as a wing of 600 from a virgo. i dont believe thhe unicom is working. after looking over the fighter codes i see nothing to reflect unicom in the codes. can anyone confirm why it has been removed? last notes in host change indicate Fixed: Virgo's Unicom never turns on. in host release 197 but as today i dont see it working.--protomatter 03:29, 13 August 2007 (CEST)

  • In the code, the Unicom is treated as a hull trait anyway (it doesn't check whether the switch is on or off, just if the hull is a Virgo).
  • I don't see any reason that the +20/+30 would not be given to CoM fighters with a Virgo in the battle (other than the +30 being useless to the Type 1's and 3's). However, in CoM vs CoM fights, especially if you have High Guard, the bonus is simply made insignificant by all the other ways to get a bonus. With 600 fighters and a high guard, the Type 2 gets its odds up to 140 (160 with unicom). With the minimal evasion of the CoM fighters, I believe the accuracy remains over 100 for both UniCom and non-UniCom fighters. For additional sims, I suggest pitting CoM fighters against an enemy fighter with high evasion, and leave High Guard out. Run several sims with and without a Virgo and see if the results differ. Some sims against a high evasion weaponless hull with heavy armor might also show some differences.
    • Perhaps the UniCom should give a flat +30 to Evasion rather than a rather unneeded bonus to beams and missiles.

  • for sim purposes i need a couple answers to some questions.

typically i let the virgo be on delay, and during the sims, the fighter wings are doing very well at destroying each other before the virgo enters the VCR. will the virgo not being present in the combat negate the unicom effect? in addition, if the wings are mixed does this provided any additional bonus or does it have to be mixed to get the over 500 fighters bonus?. in otherwords....

  1. unicom bonus
  2. wings larger than 500 bonus
  3. mixed wings bonus.

or is it

  1. unicom bonus
  2. mixed wings over 600 bonus
  • are all three cumlative when attacking enemy shipping?
  • are all three cumlative when attacking enemy fighter wings?

  1. The determination for whether Unicom is active takes place before the program checks for second wave. So it should not matter if the Virgo is set to first or second wave.
    • I believe this means that even if the Virgo is destroyed, the Unicom bonus remains until the end of combat.
  2. The bonus for large wings is determined for each fighter Type. There is no additional bonus for a mixed wing. The bonus is different for beams, missiles and whether the target is a Wing or Ship.
  • The Unicom essentially increases the base stat, while the large wing bonus is re-calculated each time the Wing fires. They stack with each other, along with the HG bonus.
