  • Combat only occurs if 2 units are within attack range (5LY) for at least 20 movement phases, otherwise they fly by too fast.

[edit] Triggering Combat BEFORE Host 213

This is out of date and only kept here for historical reasons ;)

Ship & Wing Combat Trigger Table
Ship & Wing Combat Trigger Table

Space Combat occurs between hostile objects close to each other, the exact range is 6 LY or less.

  • Combat can occur at almost in any point in the game, even while the objects are moving (we call it the Movement Phases).
  • However there is no space combat in the first 49 Movement Phases (the first quarter of the turn). After that initiation of combat is checked every single movement phase.
  • Pods cannot initiate a combat.

Simulation results of hostile object pairs of ships / wings ( tested with Host 211) can be seen in the table on the right.

[edit] Legend

UFC Object has UFC of other player set as Friendly Code ("normal" friendly codes have no influence on the triggering of combat).
ATT In the case of a ship "Combat:Attack!" or "Attack Enemies" in the case of a wing.
Combat was triggered
No combat occurred
d A "dull fight" (no firing) occurred (but in the presence of further objects a real fight could occur).

[edit] Ship vs. Ship

Combat will be triggered except

  • If both ships have "Combat: Attack!" turned OFF.
  • If both ships have the opponent's UFC set as FC.
  • If one ship has the opponent's UFC and "Combat: Attack!" turned OFF.

[edit] Wing vs. Wing

Though the picture differs from the ship-ship one, there is a simple rule.

  • If at least one wing has not the correct UFC and the setting "Attack Enemies" then combat will always be triggered.
  • If none of the wings has this combination then no combat will be triggred.

[edit] Wing vs. Ship

This is somehow wierd.

  • If the ship hasn't the right UFC as FC then combat will always be triggered. Although there are two "dull" situations as the combatant won't do the "first" shot because the target list will not populated. But in the presence of further combatants, which would not trigger a combat on their own, a real combat could occur.
  • If a ship has the correct UFC as FC and not "Combat: Attack!" then a combat won't be triggered.
  • If a ship has the correct UFC as FC and "Combat: Attack!" then a combat will only be triggered if the wing has not the correct UFC and is set to "Attack Enemies".

[edit] Ship vs. Base

[edit] Freshly docked pods!

In an actual game under Host 211 everything seemed set correctly to avoid combat between ships in a rendezvous of non allied ships. Unfortunately a Slayer with fresh docked pods jumped to this group. Approaching ships triggred a combat with this pods and the Slayer was drawn into the combat...
