Talk:Ship Income

Ship income from colonists can be considerably higher depending on race, base happiness and tax setting. Just test this with some races.

A counter-example: Using the ship income formula a Draconian Krait filled with colonists earns 18 MC per turn. The same number of Draconian colonists in a base and with the enslavement tax rate set givess the following total income (mc+gc) dependent on colonist happiness

Krait, 7000 colonists happiness enslavement complex tax rate: 100 2 mc+gc 2 mc+gc 200 3 mc+gc 6 mc+gc 300 5 mc+gc 10 mc+gc ship income: 18 mc

The largest guest capacity is on the Drac starbase: 15000 colonists happiness enslavement complex tax rate: 100 3 mc+gc 4 mc+gc 200 7 mc+gc 13 mc+gc 300 10 mc+gc 22 mc+gc ship income: 39 mc

The comparison of ship taxes with base taxes is still in need of revision. A conservative tax rate gives the minimum base tax income. Many races can do better than that and actually use other tax rates most of the time in their games.

If I had a spare 100.000 Draconian colonists (as unlikely as that is due to their low growth) and had the appropriate ship I'd put them on a ship if I was in need of some fast money (that means almost always). That ship income would give me 260 mc, having them on a base with max happiness and a complex tax rate set would result in 144 mc+gc, with one city some 244+ mc. However, I would forego some population growth. So it's something I wouldn't consider doing on a long term basis.

Consider another situation with 50.001 Draconians, just enough to fill a city. Now I get 130 mc from ship taxes, but can make 172 mc+gc from placing them in a base with a city. Now the base clearly wins compared to the ship-based income.

There is another situation when it pays more to have the colonists on a ship. That is when my base happiness is rather low, e.g. at 100. Then the base with 50.0001 Dracs in a city gives 114 mc+gc versus the 130 mc on the ship. So my colonists should do some space cruises in orbit around the planet until base happiness has reached 150, when the two sources of income are equal (with the complex tax rate set).

I know we are dealing here with sums that most of you consider their change money. We Draconians tend to be thrifty penny-pickers.

You also have to think about no growth while on ships, except for COM and IMT. But living on ships could be useful when fleeing... Lord Lancelot 01:04, 15 January 2008 (CET)

Does ship income change depending on tax rate? I have noticed that ships seem to make more with Enslavement and Complex than with other settings.

yes see main page Lord Lancelot 01:04, 15 January 2008 (CET)
