The range seem to be 750 according to

  • [1] Race Guide by Christian Jadot

Which make much more sense.

Tested this in diplomat and it seems that is correct. Weapon outranges PPC (490) and has shorter range than PPT (950)

I found the location of this effect in the large weapon firing code. The value used for comparison is distance < 760.
