Bombers do not have to be on the ground to use the Bxx ability I have used it with great success against Robot Gun Zeros and Insect nests using suicide squadrons of 10 fighters. It is also hugely strategically useful if your opponent is short of food target his farms, money target his cities (especially undercities) short of troops target his training centres. If he is short of anything make it worse!

Does the wing need to be set to attack ground ?
What exact setting and under witch host did you succeed the above ?
