[edit] Overview
This tab of the Ship Command shows all the current nav targets and lets you access them.
All commands of this tab can also be given via the Overview tab.
Clicking on any of the small green arrows pointing to the left will set the target of the slot to the current anvil object.
If you have a target selected you will see a small right pointing arrow like the one that the Tow Target currently has. Clicking on one of those arrows will cause the target Space Object to become the current anvil object. The target will appear in the box in the lower right corner as well as on the Space Command pad as the right hand object.
This tab can be used to select the current Beam Transfer Target, but not to change the current transfer target. The Transfer tab is the only screen that can be used to change the Beam Transfer target.
[edit] Nav Modes
Nav Modes consist of three Major functions Intercept, Waypoint and Escort with 1 sub function Auto-Intercept. Nav Modes are accessed via Ship Command - Nav screen , but for convenience the same functions are also placed in the Ship Command - Overview screen with the exception of Auto-Intercept which is located in the Ship Command - Mission screen.
[edit] Useful Navigation Command Codes
- WPP : Way Point Priority, ignore Intercept and Auto-Intercept targets until Waypoint has been reached.
- WPF : Way Point Priority, ignore Escort target until Waypoint has been reached.
[edit] Definitions
- Intercept : Proceed and change course as necessary to this target (intercept will remain active even after the target is reached. However if the Intercept target is destroyed the intercept is over, and the Intercept target on the Ship Command - Overview screen is cleared.
- Auto-intercept : An intercept will only occur if the proximity range has been breeched and the target type is matched, whip will proceed and change course as necessary to this target (Auto-Intercept will remain Active even after the target is reached. however if the Auto-Intercept target is destroyed the Auto-Intercept is over, until another proximately breech occurs or Auto-Intercept is turned off.
- Escort : This ship Will escort (not follow) the target until either overridden, cleared manually, escort target is destroyed or priority intervenes.
- Waypoint : Proceed to this targets x,y, if target is a moving Space Object, the waypoint will not move with it. waypoint will continue to the X,y location of the target selected at that time. and will clear itself upon arrival, or cleared manually.
[edit] Navigational Priorities and Overrides Chart
| Priority Level | Nav Mode Actions Requested | Actual Nav Mode Taken | Overridden by Command Code : | Cleared by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | WPP Waypoint Any Other Nav Mode | Waypoint | N/A [1] | Arrival at x,y co-ordinates of Waypoint Manualy Cleared |
| 1 | WPF Escort any other nav mode | Escort | N/A [1] | Destruction of Escort Target Manually Cleared |
| 2 | Intercept Auto Intercept | Intercept | N/A [3] | Destruction of Intercept Target Manually Cleared |
| 2 | Intercept Waypoint | Intercept | WPP | Destruction of Intercept Target Manually Cleared |
| 2 | Intercept Escort | Intercept | WPF | Destruction of Intercept Target Manually Cleared |
| 3 | Auto Intercept Waypoint | If Proximity breeched[2]: auto intercept if not: Waypoint | WPP | Destruction of Intercept Target Arrival at x,y co-ordinates of Waypoint Manually Cleared |
| 3 | Auto Intercept Escort | If Proximity breeched[2]: auto intercept if not: Escort | WPF | Destruction of Either target Manually cleared |
| 4 | Waypoint Escort | Escort | WPP | Destruction of Escort Target Manually Cleared |
| 4 | Escort | Escort | N/A [3] | Destruction of Escort Target Manually Cleared |
| 5 | Waypoint | Waypoint | N/A [3] | Arrival at x,y co-ordinates of Waypoint Manually Cleared |
[1] Navigational Override Command Codes are already established in this description
[2] Proximity breeched, refers to the minimum range settings established for Auto-Intercept.
[3] WPF or WPP Command Codes do not apply here, there was no conflict with Escort or Waypoint set in the requested Nav Modes.
[edit] Purpose of Waypoint and Escort Together
Waypoint does not have priority over escort.however waypoint can override escort if the WPP Command Code is used. some operations require the use of a waypoint to be performed. by allowing both escort and waypoint together you can not only perform these operations but you can still continue your escort duties. the "C" button Located next to nav mode or Mission buttons will allow you to select targets manually without the use of the waypoint indicator if you need to perform multiple/additional Missions while escorting.
Special tactic: "split destination escort" This maneuver is one that allows for two vehicles to travel together for a duration, then splits the two ships up to to travel to separate destinations all in the same turn, heres how. ship "A" and "B" are set to exact same speed. both ships set waypoint #1 to the same point where you intend to split up. then both ships set waypoint #2 to the separate destinations of their choice. ship "B" sets FC to WPF and Escort button to ship "A". this merely ships will travel together up until waypoint 1 is reached then the ships will go their separate ways.
Some Operations that can be performed while escorting are:
- Beam Transfers to target.
- Ship Device Targeting.
- Tow Target (although there are bug reports when used with escort)
- Capture Target
- Kill Target
Notes
- Intercept occurs first before Waypoint unless WPP is Command Code
- Intercept occurs first before Escort unless WPF is Command Code
- Auto-Intercept cannot override standard Intercept- see speculation above.
- Auto-Intercept overrides both Escort and Waypoint unless Command Codes WPF or WPP are in use
- Selecting Waypoint will clear the Escort button, but Selecting Escort will not Clear the Waypoint.
- Escort and Waypoint are overridden by any form of Intercept unless Navigational Command Codes are Used
- Capture Kill and Tow buttons have no effect on Nav Mode priorities and can all be set regardless of the Nav Mode.
- Auto-Intercept will only acquire one target per turn.
[edit] Mission Targeting Buttons
Kill, Capture and Tow are mission function buttons that perform various missions depending on several things and are often related to Ship Device and Super Weapon functions.
