[edit] Overview

  • Ships cam be outfitted with shield generators that generate a field that blocks most incoming fire until it is worn away and prevent hostile Boarding parties.
  • There is no limit on which shield generator you can put on your ships. However each hull has a certain limit for its shield, which the shield generator can not exceed. So it is simply a waste of money to put a shield generator on an ship that is greater than the ship's limit.
  • Using exotic techs you can increase the shields of all of your ships by 100 (Agnonic Emitter A), 300 (Agnonic Emitter B) and 500 (Agnonic Emitter C) points. These bonuses are cumulative and added to the current shield strength. This can allow a shield to exceed the normal hull limitations.
  • The lower tech shield generators may seem like a waste, but combined with the Exotic Techs, they become much more worthwhile.
  • At one time, shields cost fuel to raise (depending on their size), but that was taken out of the game. However, a small restriction remains that requires that you have at least 2 fuel on the ship to be able to raise shields before combat.

[edit] Example

A ship has a shield limit of 40, and is outfitted with a Fleece-S 30.

Combined with Agnonic Emitter A and Agnonic Emitter B the ship has an effective shield strength of:

30 + 100 + 300 = 430.
