The Scorpius is your standard carrier. If you can't afford enough Virgos to house your wings, but the enemy has minefields spread everywhere, the Scorpius is a comparable cheap safe haven for your wings.

This is not only true vs laser minefields. Sure, when lasers detonate they kill all free wings inside, nasty. But even any other minefield type will hurt your wings. Webs will stop them so that they perhaps won't reach the intended combat target, and barbs (and gravs, too?) will cause random hits which destroy between 1-100% of your wing. You can't afford to simple plow through defensive minefields with lots of expensive wings, so use the Scorpius instead when it's necessary. In company of a single Virgo it's immune vs minefield hits (free wings are not).
