Contraband is illegal and selling it is a crime! We have found another purpose for it. If we break it down into its intregral parts, some of it is quite useful.
This building of the UEA can recycle contraband into other resources. Up to 100 contraband on the base will be recycled at the end of the turn (Host 212e).

Produce cheap ordnance and food by purchasing low-price contraband; the redistribution center will turn it into other resources in the same turn. As contraband prices are low at the beginning of a game, this enables the UEA to produce lots of food giving them an optimal growth-rate.
Be careful when buying contraband. You have 2 hulls with built-in automatic (100ly) Contraband Lockdown, the Law Dog and Sergeant. Those 2 ships will cancel your buy orders and your Redistribution Center will have nothing to process.
