- When turned on, it uses 100 ord units and has a 90% chance of detecting any enemy bases within 500ly.
- If a base is detected that way, a full good scan of the planet data, including mineral and native amounts will be returned.

- Bases of The Birdman Republic and The Rebels are highly resistant against Probe Launchers. The odds get a bit better if there is a High Guard Ranger onboard the ship.
- The N. Willow Class Survey Ship of The Reunited Coalition of Systems has an SDI device that negates the effect of probe launchers for all bases within 100LY of the ship.
