Minerals are considered the materials that have not yet been mined or extracted from a planet's core. They are referred to as "unmined" ore in the Planets Client. Looking at planet in the Data Pad screen, under Minerals, you will see "Duranium Ore (Unmined)". This is the amount of Duranium that is in the planet's core. In the Base Command - Overview screen, towards the bottom center of the window you will see a column for Unmined, which lists the same information.

Each planet starts with a (random) amount of minerals in its core. The amount depends on the Master settings.

Minerals will be produced within a planet's core when the Hyperdimensional Stress and its delta stress (also known as hyperdimensional frequency) are positive values.
