[edit] Overview

Ground combat is an important part of the game as it allows capturing valuable resources. A ground combat is always fought between two enemy bases at a planet. If there are more than two enemy bases on a planet, there can be multiple ground combats in a turn.
Each base has an attack mode set that has great influence on ground combat.

[edit] Marshalling

Each base sends out a set amount of their military forces to attack the other base depending on their Attack Mode. The following table shows the percentages of military forces sent out for each of the six attack modes:

Attack Mode Troops Crew High Guards Fighters Assault Units
Peaceful - - - - -
Roaming Defense 25% - - - -
Deep Ground Patrol 50% - - 50% 50%
Attack And Run 90% - - 100% 100%
Crush Kill Destroy! 95% 95% 80% 100% 100%
Capture! 95% 95% 80% 100% 100%

[edit] Racial Specials

  • Any Centaur ground assault type 3 unit (Psi Warrior) will send its PSI force to make all assault units of the same player fighting stronger. Each unit makes them 2% stronger until a total of 30% is reached.
  • 20% of the existing drones of an involved Borg will convert to troops even if this base will not fight. It is enough that there are two other bases present which are at war.

[edit] Determination of the Attacker

The attacker is determined by the base attack mode: Lower attack modes get to attack first <= Contested Always Random. If both bases have the same attack mode, the identity of the attacker is randomly determined. The defending force rushes back to defend their base preventing the possibility of each attack force taking control of the opposite base and basically swapping positions. Forces rushing back get a penalty when fighting.

  • As two bases can only fight once a turn, you can avoid an attack from a base with a higher attack mode by attacking it with a lower attack mode.
  • Using the 'Crush Kill Destroy!' and 'Capture!' attack modes you can block an 'Attack and Run' attack if you have more than 2x the troops and high guards.

[edit] Combat Phase 1

In the first phase of combat each side does damage to the other destroying troops, crew, colonists, assault units, fighters and laser turrets with the attacker doing so first. High guard do not fight in the first phase.

[edit] Combat Phase 2

In the second phase the combat strength of either side is added up and the fate of the defending base is determined. The attack power of every force is multiplied by their number and added together.

The total attack strength used in the second phase is determined in the following way:

Number of Colonists x Colonist Combat Stat / 10,000
+ Number of Crew x Crew Combat Stat / 100
+ Number of Troops x Troop Combat Stat
+ Number of High Guard x High Guard Combat Stat
+ Number of Fighters x Fighter Combat Stats
+ Number of Assault Craft x 100

An attacking force with over 3 times the combat strength of the defending force will take all defending forces prisoner.

  • The UEA can capture enemy forces if they just have a higher combat strength than the enemy.

[edit] Research

  • What is meant with "Fighter Combat Stats" in the Combat Phase 2? I don't see this stat in my fighter screen, only Attack- Air, Troops, Cities or Ground Units. Or is the Attack Bonus of the Fighter meant?
