[edit] Overview

This device moves your base from one planet to another. After all chunneling moves take place, the base will merge with any other bases owned by the same player.

[edit] Procedure

  • To use the device, the ship with Ground Base Chunneler must be orbiting the planet with the base you want to move. The ships next Waypoint must be set to the Planet you wish move your base to. The destination can be a base or ship if they are over a planet. The destination may be any distance.
  • The target planet must have a ship in orbit with either the Ground Base Chunneler or the Warp Chunneler device. Such a ship may be built the same turn that the Ground Chunnel will occur. The target chunnel device does not need to be turned on.
  • The following turn, the ground base will be at the other planet. If there is already a base there under your ownership on the planet the two bases will merge into one base. The ship that sent the base will remain at the location it was at.
  • You can chunnel a base that is not at war with you if you match the Friendly Code of your ship and the base. In any case a base command code of NCH will prevent base chunnel.
  • An enemy player will receive a base log message when a base has channeled to the planet that they are on.
  • You can move the ship on the same turn that it chunnels, but you must end movement precisely over the originating planet and still have your next Waypoint set to the target planet. If you want to do this, then you should set the Escort Target or Intercept Target to the base that you want to chunnel then the first waypoint to the planet that you want chunnel it to. Rounding errors makes this an imprecise effort when using multiple waypoints, so it is better to use intercept or escort.
Example: Set waypoint 1 to the base that you want to chunnel and waypoint 2 to the base's destination. Set the speed to the value of the current distance to the base. There may be rounding errors which come along when the host calculates movement with two WP. You should simulate this maneuver to find the proper speed to get you into the exact X,Y position over the base.

[edit] Moment / Duration

  • Works after all movement.
  • Works after the Stellar Matter Launcher fires.
  • Works after Ground Combat.
  • Works after Assimilation Beam.
  • The chunneling is performed in ship's ID order, starting from highest to lowest.
  • Gravitonic Minefield and similar effects will not prevent Chunneling.
  • Works after new buildings are constructed.
  • Works after Base Jobs, which includes terraforming so you will modify the planet's climate that you just left, not the new planet that you moved to.
  • Works after base command codes are processed, such as GBA.
  • Cannot chunnel a base away before a planet explodes due to high Hyperdimensional Stress. (Host 194)
  • Works after Privateer hapiness hit your base and pirate cove steal your food.

[edit] Limitations

  • Both the ship initiating and receiving the chunnel must have less than 50% control damage.
  • The target planet must have a ship with Ground Base Chunneler OR Warp Chunneler over it.
  • 100 KT of fuel are burned to do the move.
  • An active Crystal X Field device within 200 LY of the base being chunneled will stop this device from working. An X Field at the destination will not stop the chunnel. The X Field ship can be owned by any player and still have this effect.
  • if there already was a base of the same owner at the target planet, the bases will be merged. This may result in populations in excess of 50 million. The turn following this effect will correct itself and any excess population will be set back to 50 million.

[edit] Research

Am I right: Probe launching comes before base chunnel. So the probe launcher“s data about the position of a base which will be chunneled in the same turn is not correct?
Probe launching does come before base chunnel. Since base chunnel occurs after movement and scanning occurs during movement, the pod will have a scan of the base until it moves away and loses its scan. --Magik 23:32, 6 September 2006 (CEST)

Does the planet under the sending (or receiving) ship have its Stress increased?
I haven't seen any evidence of this. --Magik 23:32, 6 September 2006 (CEST)
