[edit] Overview

The Cygnus is a decent anti-fighter ship with its PD slots and lots of armor. Of course you can use your fighters as anti-fighter force, too, but let's face it, nothing is as efficient as a nice barrage of turbo lasers against enemy wings. So, if you have to oppose another fighter race, and want to exchange mobility vs cost-efficiency (ie. fighters vs ships), then the Cygnus is a good alternative.

The Little Joe Class Escort might be worth a thought, too. From the stats I prefer the Cygnus, but I haven't done any testing yet.
