They eat your food. The more unhappy they are the more they eat. They eat your contraband too! If your colonists run out of food and start starving to death the Chupanoids will begin eating your dead and rapidly grow in number and happiness.
  • If their happiness is <80 they will eat up to 1/100 kt of food each.
  • If their happiness is >=80 they will eat an amount of food from 0 to the square root of their number.
  • Something that can override this result is the turn number. If the turn number is less than 25 then the amount of food eaten is a maximum of the turn number (e.g. if it is turn 4, only 4 kt of food will be eaten).
  • They can eat up to 1/50kt of any type of contraband each regardless of their happiness.

If a native pod full of Chupanoids is destroyed or run out of energy the Chupanoids will fly through space and land on many planets within 350 ly of the exploded pod. Referring to Magik: "It spreads them evenly onto up to 10 planets."

[edit] Zero Tolerance

  • Are NOT allowed on your Homeworld for the first 4 turns. Chupanoids are NOT allowed on any planet with a ground base for the first 3 turns. If you build a ground base with 100+ colonists on a planet before turn 3, Chupanoids on the planet will vanish.
    • If you beam down 100+ colonists to a planet on turn 3 or later then the Chupanoids will not vanish.

[edit] Podding Chups

  • Chup happiness must be equal to or greater than 250 in order to pod them off your base (100% chance), Native Dust Off work great if they are still on planet surface.
  • If they have 70 - 249 happiness, you have 70% chance to launch them. Each time that you fail, the Chups lose 10 more happiness.

[edit] Increase Chups happiness

They can get happy from thinking that they have exhausted all of your food. So podding your colonists and food (and contra if you can't sell it) into orbit is an option to increase their happiness. Taxes settings don't adjust their happiness.
