[edit] Rules Regarding Hull Plans
In general it is possible to build ship hulls from other races Alien hull Plans, if you get hold of the Hull Plans of the ship. However a ship being alien to the owning race does not function completely normal. This applies to ships that have been built using alien hull plans as well as to captured ships. the primary purpose to capture hull plans is so that you can build ships your normally not capable of building. However there are many restrictions regarding the Use and or construction of Alien hulls from hull Plans. some races cant buid anything. some races can build nearly whatever they want but have no means of obtaining the plans.

[A] - Immunity: The Privateers, Rebels, Cyborgs, Scavengers, People's Army, and University Alliance are immune to the Hconfig hull plan trading switch restrictions as well as the hacker droid restrictions.
[B] - Hull Plan Poof-o-Matic: special racial fixed settings.
- Solorian hull plans are Poof-o-Matic in the hands of non-solorians. solorian ships attempting to transfer/receive any hull plans receive the following message "Hull plans deleted by orders of the Solorian Leader" in thier Ship Logs. same with ground bases -host 199
- Crystal hull plans are Poof-o-Matic in the hands of non crystals. crystal ships attempting to transfer/receive any hull plans receive the following message "Hull plans deleted by orders of the Leader" in thier Ship Logs. same with ground bases -host 199
- Robotic hull plans are Poof-o-Matic in the hands of non robots
[C] - Can obtain Alien Hull Plans By Capturing non-native Hacker Droid or Hull Plan Napper.
[D]- Solorians cannot own any other race's ships (including Crystals) without taking damage The damage ranges from 10 to 40% hull damage per turn. apparently from trying to convert the fuel source it begins to fall apart.- from ships log "Fuel Gathered from star = 78, This ship seems to be falling apart! - host 199
[E] - Poof-o-Matic always on: Hull plans in the hands of the robots self-destruct.
[F]- Solorian ships captured by other non-Solorians begin to degrade immediately, which require constant repair or they will be destroyed. The ship's log will contain a message, "This ship is on FIRE!!!" and take 20% hull damage per turn. (This doesn't affect ships captured by the The Crystal Assembly. This may be a bug). - verified in Host 199 .
[G] - Privateers can not give hull plans to another race. but they can still receive hull plans from other races, should those races chose to do so.
[H] - Can obtain Alien Hull Plans By use of Native Hacker Droid or Hull Plan Napper.
[J] - borg Can not spy on enemies. nor be spied upon (except by Birdmen Praetorian Master Spies).
[K] - Pointess to spy for plans: while capable of other forms spying, and successfuly acquiring Alien Hull plans from spying, is pointless due to footnote [E] or [B]listed above.
[P] - Propriety Hull Building = Robots, Crystals, Privs and Solorians can build only thier own ships.
[S] - can obtain Alien Hull Plans by Spying.if alien hull trading allowed=no theres still a chance to capture plans but only native hacker droid races will be allowed to keep them after the turn ends.
[T] - Can Obtain Alien Hull Plans by Trading,
[X] - Poof-o-Matic: with the exception of Plans acquired via Spys, Alien Hull Plans that are on your ships at the end of the turn will disapear.
- you can not receive any plans via trading.
- before the end of the turn you can successfully transmit plans of your ships to the following races, The Privateers, Rebels, Cyborgs, Scavengers, People's Army, and University Alliance as they are immune to hull plan Poof-o-Matic.
[Y] - Poof-o-Matic: any plans that are on your ships at the end of the turn will disapear.
- you can not receive any plans via trading.
- before the end of the turn you can successfully transmit plans of your ships to anyone except solorians and crystals - as of Host 203 this is no longer valid
[Z] - Limited trading:
- Can receive plans from anyone.
- Can Trade Plans to The Privateers, Rebels, Cyborgs, Scavengers, People's Army, and University Alliance as they are immune to hull plan Poof-o-Matic.
[edit] Useless Alien Hull Plans
Depending on your game, race and HConfig settings you may or may not be able to Build Alien Hulls. so what do you do with useless Alien Hull plans.
- Trade them to someone who can for something you can use. some Hull Plans are very valueable, especially those containing Ship Devices. see who lacks those Ship Devices, and make offers for something you can use in return.
- Trade with the Privs for Natives Contraband or Cash. theyre always looking for better ways to board enemy ships, and those Hull Plans will give them the specs on how to do so.
[edit] Notes
- The Privateers, Rebels, Cyborgs, Scavengers, The People's Army, and The University Alliance are immune to hull plan restrictions.
- Privateers, Robots, Crystals, and Solorians cannot build ships from Alien Hull Plans.
- Only Robots, Crystals, and Solorians can have hull plans for their ships. -verified for Crystals and Solorians, false for Robots - host 199
- Privateers can not give Hull Plans to another race.
- Ground Base Command Code "CIA" deletes any alien Hull Plan you have stored on the Ground Base.
- Hull Plans in the hands of the robots self-destruct.
- Hull Plans cannot be transferred to an enemy or ally Ground Base via Starship.
- The Crystal X Field and the Hull Plan Napper delete alien Hull Plans on ships.
- An ally with "Allow Commands" turned on will not be able to lock any Hull Plans into the computers memory of an ally's ship.
- Borg Can not spy on enemies. nor be spied upon (except by Birdmen Praetorian Master Spies).
- Robotic Hulls built by non robots Can only be built in space by ships with large enough Dry Docks.- as of host 204 this is no longer valid
- The Coalition Binary Class Star Port cannot be built in spacial Dry Dock
- building alien hull plans in dry docks is no longer a valid way to bypass the proprietary hull building rules as of host 204
- the Following Coalition Hull Plans can Not be built in spacial Dry Dock nor be built by non Coalition
- X. 240 Comb Class Escort
- A. Interstellar Class Frigate
- N. Willow Class Survey Ship
- N. Everygreen Science Vessel
- A. Odin Class Carrier
- X. 1260 Royal Class Heavy Cruiser
[edit] Capturing Gold Pods containing Alien Plans
Sometimes its more convienant for your alllies to pod up the plans and send them to you or perhaps you have found an enemy gold pod being sent to someone else of which you would like to capture. either way, capturing the pod is your Goal. be aware however that gold pods can cloak, dissapear before your eyes, hopefully you have a way to locate cloaked pods.
- see Capturing Pods for Details on how.
[edit] Capturing Alien Hull Plans via Hacker Droid
non-native Hacker Droids are subject to settings in the HConfig, native Hacker Droids are not. ships with the Hacker Droid Ship Device acquire Alien hull Plans by towing the Alien Ship.
[edit] Heres How
- The Hacker Droid ship must tow the Alien Hull a distance of 20 lys. - tow distance irrelevant - host 199, bug?
after the tow is complete the alien hull Plans will be automatically loaded into the hacker ships computer. and available for transfer to various ships and bases. Providing there is not already a Hull Plan Loaded.
[edit] Some Notes Regarding Hacker Droid.
- It will work on any ship under Tow (once before and once at the end of the movement phases), including enemy ships that you are not in control of and the ship itself.
- A ship can Tow himself to hack his plan, this is useful on a Captured enemy ship with Hacker Droids.
- Rebels, Cyborgs, Scavengers, The People's Army, and The University Alliance are immune to Hull Plan restrictions. and will be able to use Hacker Droid, move plans around and build Alien Hull ships even if the HConfig Alien Hull Trading Allowed = No
- Hacker Droid = no in the HConfig settings does not effect races with immunity to Hull Plan restrictions.
[edit] Transfering Alien Hull Plans
the transfer of alien hull plans can be complicated if your not sure what your doing, below is some guildelines to use for the safe transfer of the plans.
[edit] Transfer From Ships
- The transmitting Ship must be at the same point as the receiving target ship or base and initiate a beam transfer with its recieve Target. "Transmit Data switch" is not required to be on. (same race only)
- The receiving ship needs to be at the same location and must place his "receive Data Switch" to on in the starship Build Screen.
- IF transmitting Ship to base you must be at the same location as the receiving Base, and perform an actual beam transfer (I usually beam up 1 or 2 repair units or Fuel From the base to make this happen). you can confirm this will work if the Base ID is listed in starship Build Screen under transfer Data ID#. if it isnt, it wont transfer.(same race only)
- The receiving ships must not have a plan stored in their memory banks to get the new plan.
- only 1 alien hull Plan may be stored in base and starship computers. adding a second alien hull plan will auto erase the prior Alien hull Plan.
Notes:
- Mass Transfer: You can tranfer it to as many ships as you wish in a single turn without initiating a beam transfer. by selecting Transmit from the transmitting ships and Receive from the recieving ships (allys and enemys included) if all ships are at the exact same co-ordinates. this is the purpose of the "Transmit Switch"
- There is no limit to the amount of ships that can get the plans, from a single original plan, on the transmitting ship.
- only 1 alien hull Plan may be stored in base and starship computers. adding a second alien hull plan will auto erase the prior Alien hull Plan.
[edit] Transfering from Gold Pods
- Base to ships in orbit: merely set the Dock option, on the following turn have the ship set the pod to transfer plans.
- Base to ships not in orbit: Boost and Dock, on the following turn have the ship set the pod to transfer plans.
- Base to Base: Set boost and dock, plans will appear in the base computer the turn it lands.
To Allies
- Base to Allied ships in orbit: merely set the Dock option, on the following turn have the Ally set the pod to transfer plans.
- Base to Allied ships not in orbit: Boost and Dock, on the following turn have Ally set the pod to transfer plans.
- Base to Allied Base: Set boost and dock, plans will appear in the ally base computer the turn it lands.
- base to Allied base on same planet: set boost and dock. without boost the pod will dock with your base not his. plans will appear in the ally base computer the turn it lands.
[edit] Alien Hull Plan Limits
only 1 alien hull Plan may be stored in base and starship computers. adding a second alien hull plan will auto erase the prior Alien hull Plan. there is an exception when using Starship Dry Docks To construct Alien hulls
- only 1 alien hull Plan may be stored in base and starship computers. adding a second alien hull plan will auto erase the prior Alien hull Plan.
- Starships with Dry Docks can build Multiple Alien hulls depending on the number pod bays available. wiithout storing the Hull Plans in thier computers.
- A Ship with Dry Dock can build as many different Alien Hull Plans as he has pod Bays if Using the Quickbuild and the Alien Hull plans are stored in the gold Pods docked within the Ship.
- only 1 Hull plan, alien or not, may be placed in a Gold Pod.
[edit] Capturing Alien Hull Plans via Spying
Use of spys to steal technical plans is used in every government since the dawn of time. VGAP is no different. stealing alien hull plans from your enemys is not just fun, its your duty.
[edit] How To
From Central Command Screen Select Spy. then turn on the Switch marked "Steal Ship Plans(300)". be sure your mana is above the 300 mark or the spy wont do anything until it is. also You must have a ship within 45 ly of an enemy ship for this attack to work. You can only steal plans that you have the appropriate ship hull tech level requirement for. The hull plan that you get can be of any hull plan of the target race; not just the ship(s) within 45 ly. You do not lose your spy mana if there is no enemy ship within range when spy attacks occur.Spy attacks cannot be performed until game turn 10. and you can not build up mana for the attack before that time.
The likelihood of stealing any particular plan is directly related to the number of each hull that the player currently has in play. so if he has few or none, your chances are the low.
When one of the attacker's ships is within 45 ly of the target's ships then the Spy Mana is deducted and a random ship of the attacker is attempted to be found that has no hull plans on it. This is a random attempt to find such a ship and if it fails, then the attack fails. When a target ship is found then the any high guard on board can attempt to protect the computer's core so that the attacker cannot download any hull plans. There is a 25% chance that the high guard will stop the attack, but if the attacker is Birdmen then high guard have no chance to stop it. When the target ship is of a hull that you can already produce (not from alien hull plans) then the attack fails. Otherwise, the attacker's ship gains the hull plans of the random target ship's hull. If the target ship's hull is alien to the target player then the hull plan can still be stolen.
[edit] Results of Success
If an attempt to steal ship plans has occured you will recieve a game message indicating success or failure.
- If successful it will indicate which of your ships now holds the newly captured alien hull plans.
- If successful, your enemy will recieve a game message that the hull plans to "name of hull plan" have been stolen and uploaded to ship " ships name". When reading this message you can put the ship in either hammer or anvil. You can also go to the location of the ship by clicking the map icon.
Spy Report Our spies have stolen ship plans for a hull type: Darkwing Class Battleship ship. The plans have been uploaded to the ship: Death From Above
[edit] Who Shouldnt Use Spys
- Solorians and Crystals should not bother to steal plans via spy as the Hull Plans will go poof by order of thier leaders
- Robots should not bother to steal plans via spy as any Hull Plans in the hands of the Robots go poof at the end of the turn.
- Borg are not allowed to use spys at all.
[edit] History of host changes to this article
- Host 203 Fixed: Dry Dock can no longer build alien hulls from Robot, Crystal, or Solorian unless you are that race.
- Host 203 Fixed: Hull plans from races that you mustn't have hull plans for (Solorians, Robots, Crystals) will be removed from ships.
- Host 203 Changed: Steal ship plans spy attack requires that a ship be within 45 ly of an enemy ship. The attacker's ship must not have any hull plans in it already. The attacker will receive the hull plan on the attacking ship; not any available ship in the fleet.
