[edit] Overview
Barbitic Minefields are the 'standard' minefields, which contain mines that will damage ships. These types of minefields have the potential of doing the most damage to ships, even outright destroying smaller ships. A Barbitic Minefield hit will destroy a ship with a hull mass of under 100kt.
- Barbitic minefields are the only type of minefield which has a lower chance to be swept while they are cloaked.
A cloaked barbitic has a 25% chance of being swept unless you have a scan of it. If you have a scan of it, then there is a 100% chance (Host 212e). - Detonating a Barbitic Minefield will soft detonate all minefields that have their center within the radius of the detonated minefield. If you want to overlap Barbitic Minefields in such as way that detonating one will not detonate them all, you can successfully overlap 5 minefields to protect a point in space, such as a planet, base, or jumpgate (see below).
- In the case that a Nova Barbitic Minefield is within this detonation, it will also detonate, causing a chain reaction.
[edit] Damage done during movement
- A ship hitting a barbitic mine gets hull damage:
IF Hull Mass <= 100kt THEN Hull Damage : 100 IF Hull Mass > 100kt and <= 400kt THEN Hull Damage : (100 / Hull Mass) x (RND(0 to 150) + 130) IF Hull Mass > 400kt THEN Hull Damage : (100 / Hull Mass) * 80 * Rnd ' Introduced in Host 198
- There is also the chance that the soft spot of the ship is hit and additional hull damage is inflicted:
IF RND(0 to 50) < Hull_SoftSpot THEN Hull Damage : Hull Damage + (RND(0 to 200) + 20
- A minehit also deals damage to the other ship parts:
Engine Damage : (100 / Hull Mass) x RND(0 to 50) + 5 Life Support Damage : (100 / Hull Mass) x RND(0 to 120) System Damage : (100 / Hull Mass) x RND(0 to 80) Shield Damage : (100 / Hull Mass) x RND(0 to 40) Weapon Damage : (100 / Hull Mass) x RND(0 to 60)
- Ship Scanner profile increases by 800 for the rest of the movement phases for each Barbitic Minefield hit.
- Wing will lose (fighterCount * Rnd) from each fighter Type.
- Wing had 2% chance of losing its High Guard.
[edit] Damage done during detonation
Hull Damage : 2000 / (Hull Mass + 1) + 2 System Damage : (2000 / (Hull Mass + 1) + 2) * 2
- No damage to wings.
- No sensor image increase.
- 33% chance to destroy undocked pods.
- Gold, life, ore, outfit, or resupply pod can be affected. Some pods are being destroyed without a message. Looks like a bug.
- Does not affect assault, construction, wreckage, and native pods.
- Any non-Nova minefields are destroyed. Nova minefields will chain react.
[edit] Minefield Flowers
When covering a point with a maximum of barbitic minefields that do not cover each others centers (and therefore can be all be detonated without affecting the other ones), the most effective way will be very symetric and look somewhat like a flower:
[edit] 12-leaved Flower
This also takes into account that barbitics are detonated in the order of their IDs (lowest ID (=oldest minefield) first)), so we can built up to 3 rings of minefields:
Turn 1: (0, 12) | (12, 0) | ( 0, -12) | (-12, 0) ( 500 Ord each ) Turn 2: (13, 13) | (13, -13) | (-13, -13) | (-13, 13) ( 1,500 Ord each ) Turn 3: (0, 28) | (28, 0) | ( 0, -28) | (-28, 0) ( 5,000 Ord each )
[edit] Special
- Any barbitic minefields laid by the Robotic Imperium are Nova Barbitic Minefields, that are subject to special rules.
- The H Ross Destroyer and RU25 Gunship take only 20 points of hull damage from hitting a Barbitic Minefield, but will take full Engine, Life Support, System, Shield, and Weapons damage as any other ship. The ships are still subject to a possible Soft Spot hull damage hit.
- Ships of the Scavenger Tribes don't hit barbitic minefields during movement, but they can be damaged by detonation.
- The Aczanny ship, Sparrow Class Scout, doesn't hit barbitic minefields during movement but it can be damaged by detonation.
- The Rebels have a ship ability to pretend to be another race. Doing this, they can pass through those minefields without being affected (Host 212a).
- When the Virgo Class ship of The Colonies of Man has a high guard ranger on board and a wing docked with it, all ships and wings belonging to that player that are within 10 LY at beggining of the turn of the Virgo Class, are immune to hit enemy minefields, but not to the effects of the detonations. This protection only applies to the owning player.
- The Colonies of Man's Warrior Shuttle is immune to Barbitic Minefield effects when it has high guard rangers on board.
- RCS Maelstorm Class Light Cruiser is a true cloaker & immune to all minefields.
