[edit] Overview

Good for protecting alien plans from pesky Privateers. Necessary for converting minerals or supplies into fuel. Rather than orbital mining, you're usually better off using Plasmatron N6is which are more mobile. One of these in enemy territory can be useful, especially if you've acquired plans to a warp chunnel ship.

[edit] Morgath's Bird guide From May 2005

Avalor is your cloaking star base. It only has two problems. First being that you can not move it and second being that you do not need it for anything. Your Plasmatron N6is are much better in mining and if you need DTMS-N Fuel Converter you can build much cheaper and movable Alaska Class Refinery Ship instead. As a battle station it is not a worth of cost.
