Asteroid Field
From PlanetsWiki
[edit] Overview
An asteroid field is the remnant of a planet.
- Asteroid fields can be mined (have their minerals extracted) by orbital miners. Devices such as the Laser Mining Drill are required.
- Adjusting the Hyperdimensional Stress of an asteroid field has no affects on the asteroid field.
- Only certain races can create bases on asteroid fields. Those are:
[edit] Creation
There are 3 ways to create an asteroid field:
- Natural: When a planet's Hyperdimensional Stress exceeds 1000 then it has a chance of exploding. That explosion causes all bases on the planet to be destroyed and changes the planet into an asteroid field.
- Zapped: A Super Laser can also explode a planet and thus change it into an asteroid field.
- Designed: A map designer can choose to have star systems begin the game as asteroid fields.
[edit] Changing Back
An asteroid field can change into a planet by use of the super weapon Protomatter Cannon. A Base on an Asteroid Field will destroy due this process. (Thanks to Drayath for the research).
A Protomatter Cannon was fired at asteroid field #196 causing it to mutate back into a planet. Our base was destroyed in the process!
Asteroids also have a low 0.5% chance to become a planet again, by it self. This process is called planet genesis.
Drayath simmed this with the IMT: "500 IMT bases on 500 asteroid fields. On planet genesis the base remains. Between 1-4 planets formed a turn would suggest a 0.5% (i.e. 1 in 200) conversion rate." "Just ran the game though another 20 turns [..]: 46 in 9890 (0.47%)"
An asteroid field # 2 has mutated back into a planet. The planet is located at: ( 1374 , 1302 )
